This is a movement class for 18 mos to 2 years (I also bring my baby along). Miss Jenny plays upbeat music and passes out props and leads the kiddos through dance moves that help with motor development. The class is offered through the Henderson Parks & Rec program, and also through the St. Rose Dominican WomensCare Outreach program.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Miss Jenny is fun and energetic. The class is 30 minutes of nonstop dancing and moving. She plays upbeat dance music. You should know that the music isn’t “kid music” it’s more popular dance music. Obviously there is nothing wildly inappropriate but I have heard things along the lines of “I’m sexy and I know it.” Miss Jenny brings creative props (for example: glitter wands, squishy balls, slinkys, ribbon sticks). She leads families in different movements to the music (tap your knee, twirl, jump). Caregiver participation is expected.
I recommend signing up for the class at St. Rose Outreach, because it’s free! However, you do need to be registered. Call 7026164900 to register, they will let you know if/when registration is open.
The rec program class is called “Dancing with Your Baby.”
WHAT TO TAKE
Nothing in particular for the class. I recommend water for during/after… the kids really get movin’!
We were introduced to this class by a friend. We register for it each time the registration opens up for the outreach classes (every couple months) and we just casually go or don’t go depending on how we feel that Thursday. We go to the location on Eastern and Paseo Verde. We have found that the 11:15 class is a lot busier than the class at noon. We all have a great time.
WHAT WE LIKED
This is pretty much the only scenario in which Kyler (2) will do what an adult is asking and participate with all the other kids. It warms my little mommy heart to see him tapping his foot when she says tap your foot and jumps over his stick when all the other kids are jumping over their sticks. I love the variety in activities. We have some favorite props that make their way back frequently, but there has never been a class that we didn’t also have several new props.
WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
Sometimes it gets really really crowded, because she’s so popular, but what can ya do. Some of the props are not baby-friendly (which is to be expected, as the class is for 18-month olds and up), but I have to be careful to make sure my little guy doesn’t get his hands on things that he will eat.
WILL WE GO AGAIN
Yep! We go a lot!
